Dark Souls: Vs. the Big Bad Wolf by karniz Dark Souls: Vs. the Big Bad Wolf by karniz
:icondonotuseplz::iconmyartplz:

Drawn: December 2011
Program: Pen & Paint Shop Pro
From: Karniz's Many Deaths in Dark Souls, series.

I'm not kidding
After a couple of failed "run in and get mauled" attempts...
I went in. Took a deep breath. And slowly... patiently... took about twenty minutes to take Sif down.

I believe at this point, I became much better at using melee in this game. Previously to this point, I mainly used my pyromancy and sorcery.

BOOM.

And forgive me if this comic seems a bit rushed. It really was. At the point of illustrating this I was really well farther than the Darkroot area... and I was forgetting major points in my gameplay [I believe I was in Sen's fortress at this point...] so I'm rushing the comic to go into..

Blight town...
Stay tuned!

In all honesty, Sif was the turning point for my Dark Souls experience. Up 'till that point I mainly played 'cause I was too stubborn to let the game beat me, until I hit a f-ing concrete barrier named Sif. The instant he kicked the bucket, Dark Souls had MY soul caught ^^

I was able to beat Sif on the first try just by staying under his legs. Helped that I was using a Tower Shield too.

better multiplayer would have made fighting that boss a lot easier, and bosses in general. hopefully Darksouls 2 will be a massive improvement in all areas of the game.

I had the eagle shield by the time I fought Sif. Turned the fight into a cakewalk, and I killed him on the first try. Seriously, ALL you need is a greatshield. I think the fact that a lot people don't use one to fight this boss is why they find it so hard.

This boss had the most beautiful introduction cut-scene. When he was limping around near death I didn't want to kill him, compared to the other monsters he looked so noble and bad-ass. A giant wolf fighting with a great-sword to protect a shrine of fallen knights? Sublime!

That's funny, cuz a lot of people have said Sif is one of the tougher bosses. I found him brutally easy, with him getting one hit on me. Same with Nito. I guess it depends on your build, cuz my guy was heavy on the blocking. Conversely I found some other bosses, that others said were easy, deep frying my ass and repeatedly kicking me back to the camp fire. Right now the main boss responsible is NG+ 4 Kings. Haven't been able to find anybody able to last much past the first king, and with no backup I end up fighting the other 3 all at once.

I recently started a new character because my friend begged me to, and I kept dying at the four kings until I used Iron Flesh. It allowed me to heal in-between hits without interruption, and gave me that extra bit of protection. I rarely use it because it slows you down, and now I just use very heavy armor, but it helped a ton when I repeatedly was getting slashed every five seconds.

Haha first time when I encountered Sif I was like: "Ohh, great.. Im so f*cked! ...Why are you looking at the sword? Don't even think about it! Oh no you don't! Drop the sword I said! AWW GODDAMMIT RUN!!"
This must have been the boss where I died most, but still I love him.
Keep your comics up man, they are really awesome!

I just bought Dark Souls the other day; I had rented it closer to the release date, but couldn't afford it. Now, I spend almost all my free time playing it. I gave my character a back story and everything. His name is Scourge, and he's looking for his brother Victor; the character I created when I rented the game. He was given the dark sign by a demon who told him he would give him (Scourge) immortality. Scourge fell for his trick, and was quickly slain by the demons blade, trapping him in an undead state. He awoke in a prison cell, with only memories of his brother, Victor.

sif is by far my favourite boss in the game, broke my heart to kill him though, oddly enough I managed it on the first attempt, but then again by that point I was using the ornstein armour, havels ring, and the dragon slayer spear fully upgraded. I sure felt mighty right up until I faced what was hidden in new londo...

You mean the "Darkness" there?
You said you have Ornstein armor.. So that means you killed Smough first in that fight?
I tought that was impossible x)

It's definitely possible. You gotta move around a lot, avoid Ornestein. He sometimes gets stuck behind Smough or even a pillar. Just gotta keep your shield up when you're out in the open, and watch your back.

four bosses at once is just overkill... compared to that my nightmarish fight versus ornstein seemed easy. A tip for facing ornstein, take out the fatty quickly, and damaging ornstein before he 'absorbs' smough is inadvisable. Once he has turned giant and is shooting lightning at you just try to dodge and attack right after he shoots a bolt at you, then immediately retreat and await another bolt or large attack and repeat the process. Takes time and it's easy to die but keep at it and eventually you'll win. And the quicker smough is out of the picture the better, having both of em coming at you at once is not a good thing.

The armor of the one you kill last becomes available as well. I chose Ornestein because I thought he looked cool, though the armor didn't have that red hair coming out the back. Smough's armor is certainly something a heavy build might want to try for, as it's really strong for an armor you cannot upgrade. Alone it weighs about 42.5 to maybe 45 lbs.

I play only as melee... try and stay under Sif and attack his legs. His attacks have a long enough animation that you can usually roll under without too much trouble, oh and equip a 100% physical reduction shield with high stability (balders shield levelled up a bit is a very good shield, I'd use the soul to upgrade to Artorias shield ASAP too since it's the best of all the Artorias weapons)

I remember Sif. Kicked my ass the first time I fought him. Turns out I wasn't supposed to be there yet XD

Some rumour that he could be spared if your rank 3 in forest covenant. Alvina would tell you to go kill him and when he started limping was when you could let hm go and he would drop the ring. But this was false. You must kill him. No matter how much your heart breaks inside.

It's fairly easy to melee Sif if you have decent endurance. Just keep the block up and get under him, then hit the legs. Only thing to really watch out for is the spinning attack that you need INSANE endurance to block both strikes of.

Sif is one of those really annoying bosses the first time through no matter what though :P

I think I like the celebration pose the best, now that I've given it more thought - the struggle makes the victories sweeter. :)

As for melee, only time will tell (if I ever find time to play again...)
